Featuring a standard focal length zoom lens with a large aperture throughout its focal length, the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM boasts a 24-70 millimetre focal length and a 38.4-112 millimetre equivalent focal length on Canon APS-C cameras. With a constant maximum aperture of F2.8 and a minimum aperture of F22, the lens is equipped with a ring-type ultrasonic-type AF motor that allows for full-time manual focusing.
Accommodating 82 millimetre filters, the lens has a closest focusing distance of 0.38 meter/1.25 feet and a maximum magnification of 0.21x (at 70mm). Without image stabilization, the lens features an inner focusing system with an ultrasonic motor (USM) for fast autofocusing.
Offering a diagonal angle of view ranging from 84° to 34°, the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM weighs 1.7 pounds. The lens's advanced features include a high-speed CPU, image-optimized AF algorithms for fast autofocusing, and optimized lens coatings for exceptional color balance and minimal ghosting. The front and rear lens surfaces are also treated with a fluorine coating to reduce smears and fingerprints.
The optical design of the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM utilizes 1 Super UD lens element and 2 UD lens elements to minimize chromatic aberration in the outer area at wide-angle, as well as to eliminate color blurring around the edges of the subject, resulting in images with high resolution and contrast.
Furthermore, the lens combines 2 types of aspherical lenses to reduce spherical aberration and achieve high image quality across the entire screen area and throughout the full zoom range.
